While granting independence to India Sir Winston Churchill is said to have prophesied.
Power will go to the hands of Rascals, Rogues, Free loaders & Charlatans...
Power will go to the hands of Rascals, Rogues, Free loaders & Charlatans...
All Indian Leaders will be of low calibre & men
of straw...
They will have Sweet Tongues & Silly
Hearts...
Giving false promises will be their game with the
poor & stupid masses...
They will be Shameless & Unpatriotic in their
ways while handling problems of the people...
They will fight amongst themselves for power &
India will be lost in political squabbles...
Justice will be a joke...
A day will come when Air, Water & even Common
Salt will be taxed in India..."
Our own Statesman Rajaji had in 1922 in his prison diary wrote:
'We all ought to know that Swaraj will not at once or ,I think ,even for a long time to come
bring better goverment or greater happiness fo people.Elections and their corruptions.injustice, and
the power and tyranny of wealth, and inefficiency of administration ,will make a hell of life as soon
as freedom is given to us.Men will look regretfully back to the old regime of comparative justice
and efficient, peaceful, more or less honest administration.Only thing gained as race we wiil be
saved from dishonour and subordination.Hope lies only in unversal education by which right
conduct, fear of God and love will be developed among citizens from childhood. It is only if we
succeed in this that Swraraj will mean happiness.Otherwise it will mean the grinding injustices
and tyranny of wealth. What a beautiful world it would be if everybody were just and God fearing
and realised the happiness of loving other!Yet ,there is more practical hope for ultimate
consummation of ideal in India than elsewhere.
one addition here--even with education there appears to be no salvation in our country
